He just wants to get himself out of the poo with the Margoyles
clan and finish his association with them by getting hold
of The Mexican. His girlfriend Samantha (Julia Roberts) is
an emotional basketcase who has forced the dopey bloke into
counselling over their strained relationship.
The two go their separate ways only Samantha finds herself
getting unwanted attention by hitmen hired by those eager
to get the gun themselves. In fact she is kidnapped by the
psychotic Leroy (James Gandolfini) who uses her as insurance
to make Jerry toe the line.
Leroy and Samantha begin talking and the scenes pairing Roberts
and Gandolfini are the best of the movie. For my money without
Gandolfini this film would not rate.
There's plenty of action, savage black humour and a lot of
very funny situations that the main characters find themselves
involved in.
The transfer is terrific, with the Mexican landscape looking
hot, dusty, colourful and razor sharp. The sound is very good
with a lively soundtrack.
The Mexican is surprisingly entertaining - although not for
having Pitt and Roberts in - and will give you an excellent
night's viewing.
Conclusion: Movie 85%, Extras 60%
