Monsoon Wedding

There is an infectious bug coming out of Asia and it is fair to say it is not the SARS virus.

No, the bug - which has bitten this chap over the past six months - makes you want to see more and more Indian movies.

Bend It Like Beckham started the fever and Mira Nair's wonderful Monsoon Wedding is adding to the condition.

Monsoon Wedding is the story of an Indian couple preparing for the wedding of their only daughter Aditi (Vasundhara Das) and almost everyone of importance in the clan has flown in from around the world to be there. Melbourne even gets a mention!

Dad Lalit (Naseeruddin Shah) and mother Pimmi (Lillete Dubey) are coping fairly well, despite the pressures - although the bride-to-be is having doubts.

Well, big doubts really, as it is an arranged marriage to a nice engineer and she is still in love with another (married) man.

Throw into the mix the comical wedding organiser PK Dubey (Vijay Raaz) and his own love life and a riotous pack of relatives and you have a wonderful heart-warming movie.

The transfer is superb and the colours rich and gorgeous. Sound-wise it is excellent.

Monsoon Wedding is one of those films you will really take a shine to and just keeps getting better with every viewing.

Conclusion: 90% Extras: 70%.
