Review by Sean Lynch

Never let it be said that the British are good for nothing, unless of course you are outlandishly annoyed that it was in fact the British that created the monstrosity that has now reached our shores like the plague - The Uplate Gameshow

Most Haunted

None the less, they have also been the creators of some of the best comedies of our time (Blackadder, Black Books, Fawlty Towers), some of the best dramas (The Bill, Inspector Morse) and as much as it pains me to say - some of the better lifestyle shows (Changing Rooms, Ground Force). They have even had their fair share of input into reality TV, none more popular than this cult hit Most Haunted (with over 12 million viewers in the UK alone).

Australian's may have felt like they've seen this all before - despite the fact Most Haunted only recently started airing on Foxtel's Areana and W Channels. We've copied it a few times (the short lived Channel 10 series from 2000 entitled Scream Test is the most notable).

The premise is pretty simple. Eleven people and twenty four hours. That’s what it will take to reveal the answer to a question that fascinates all…Do ghosts really exist?

Television programmes have tried and failed to find the truth convincingly. For the first time, a team sets out to bring an honest account of paranormal activity from some of the UK's most renowned haunted properties. Across 16 locations, our dear hosts encounter the many manifestations of ghosts, from poltergeists to doppelgangers, possessions to apparitions.

There are moments where you will be sucked in - you really will - but for the majority this show can be downright hilarious and often farcical. Medium, David Wells, takes it all very seriously - and any respect he may claim to have go out the window when he begins to "become possessed" by spirits - co-incidently, just as the cameras are filming! Not because his claims of possession arn't legitimate - it's just it's hard not to laugh at an aging man whose facial expressions should only be seen during a cheap porno's "Money Shot".

It's not Shakespeare, but it never claims to be, and is none the less entertaining. One of those shows you find flicking channels and dismissing it immediately but realise an hour later you've watched the whole episode. Give it a try.

EXTRAS

No extras as such, just an array of episodes to various locations including Moresby Hall, Edinburgh Vaults, Leith Hall, Aberdeenshire, Aberglasney House and the ever spookySchooner Hotel.

Conclusion: Movie 65% Extras: N/A
