The Mummy: Ultimate Edition

If you haven't seen The Mummy on DVD before then ... well, dammit, shame on you.

It is not going out too far on a limb, to suggest that The Mummy was launched into cult status by DVDs and it, in turn, fired up people's desire to trade in their video players.

A hugely fun script, appealing actors and stunning visual effects knitted well with the storyline of a librarian and adventurer joining forces to save the world from an ancient and resurrected evil.

This latest reincarnation of The Mummy is effectively a two-disc bolstered package of extras from The Mummy: Deluxe Edition and a new DTS sound option.

The movie, as said before, is a terrific romp in the tradition of Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone and is filled with gunfights, explosions, really amazing visuals and a huge amount of laughs.

The most obvious addition to the ultimate edition - extras aside - is the DTS option, which will have DVD freaks slavering into their speakers. The DTS gives your surround speakers a good workout and if you have a finely honed ear then you will pick that it offers a much cleaner sound than even the excellent Surround 5.1.

All up, if you haven't got a copy of The Mummy: Deluxe Edition then this is the way to go. Likewaise, if you happen to be fanatical about your sound, then the DTS offers a worthwhile reason to upgrade DVD copies.

Conclusion: Movie 90%, Extras 85%
