NCIS - The 4th Season

Review by Sean Lynch

Much like the aftermath of a Paris Hilton birthday party, once CSI was an international mega-hit there was simply no stopping the spread of acronyms in television.

And the thing about acronyms is - once you've contracted it... it stays with you forever.

NCIS : The Fourth Season

A spin-off of the long running JAG series, NCIS follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and it's skilled team in their pursuit of the most difficult military-related crimes. Operating independently of the U.S. military, this is yet another elite TV team of experts who solve cases of murder, espionage and terrorism.

NCIS
is yet more of the same, except this time they are tackling crime within the Navy. That's by no means a bad thing - in fact NCIS is easily one of the more enjoyable detective series on TV (thanks in no small part to the undeniable charm of Aussie favourite Michael Weatherly) but it's hardly must-watch television.

Highlights throughout this fourth season (which according to fans... by which I mean my girlfriend... this season was the starting point of a positive rejuvenation for the show) include a rip snorter of an episode which see's the return of Sharif (a terrorist responsible for planting the bomb in Sandblast episode) as well as an Indiana Jones-esque adventure involving the uncovering of a crypt.

Much like Quincy or Matlock (the CSI's of yesteryear), NCIS is nothing if not highly consistent entertainment. It's not ground breaking, it's not surprising, but at the very least it delivers consistent quality and expectations.

DVD EXTRAS

By the fourth season releases of most TV shows, Special Features are few and far between - so it's astonishing to see how jam packed this release is.

There is an extensive Cast Round table chat (which, again, proves that Weatherly may very well be the most likable man in the TV industry), a slew of featurettes including "Ducky's World", "Dressed To Kill: Dressing the Sets of NCIS" and a look at the various sets and props used throughout the season.

But fans will be most interested in "The Season of Secrets" which is easily the highlight of the lot.

Conclusion: Movie 70% Extras: 65%
