Yes two of Hollywood's leading hearthrobs - and, it has to
be said, pretty fair actors - lead a team of nice-guy crooks
against the Las Vegas casino nasty Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia)
who is currently bedding Clooney's ex-wife (Julia Roberts).
Clooney plays Danny Ocean, who has just been released from
prison. He has had four years to perfect a plan and on release
gets in touch with some old mates.
His co-planner in crime is Rusty Ryan (Pitt) who is bored
with teaching actors how to play cards and will be into anything
with excitement.
In addition, there is a host of multi-talented conmen and
thieves willing to help out the chums. They are all marvels
at something and the round-up is a fun series of moments while
renewing acquaintances.
It was terrific to see Carl Reiner on-screen again playing
Saul Bloom, a retired conman persuaded back into the business
by the thought of splitting $150 million 11 ways.
Once the plan gets into action it is done very nicely - in
that you are never quite sure what the hang is supposed to
happen, or if the plan is actually working. This sets up nice
little blocks of interests that eventually roll together into
a pretty exciting movie.
The transfer is excellent with any glitches being missed
by these eyes. The sound is superb and the all-important dialogue
comes across as clearly as a bell.
This stylish movie was much better and much more enjoyable
than expected.
Conclusion: Movie 80%, Extras 75%
