Actions fans are in for a bit of a treat with this movie, with Antonia Banderas going a little gun crazy as the returning El Mariachi.

Pulled out of self-imposed retirement by a deliciously amoral CIA officer (Johnny Depp), Banderas has the opportunity to take revenge upon a nasty Mexican general (are there any other sort?) who bumped off his beautiful wife (Salma Hayek).

Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Throw into the plot a ruthless drug baron wanting a coup to rid the country of a seemingly honest president and you have the potential for explosive action.

And that is what you get.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico has gunfights and explosions galore and one particularly brilliant scene where a chained together Banderas and Hayek swing down from the top of a hotel while gunmen try to blow them away.

It is fast paced and runs its 97 minutes quickly.

Banderas is terrific as the man seeking revenge, although Depp really is the star of the show with his CIA agent. Watch for the dining scenes - they are excellent - as is his gutsy shootout at the end of the film.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico is good, gory fun.

Conclusion: Movie 85% Extras 70%
