After all, why would a corporation want someone running around
who could not only tell on them, but also rebuild the software
somewhere else?
So Jennings, in return for his large pay, has his mind wiped
from the moment he begins working on a new assignment.
His scientist pal Shorty (Paul Giamatti) does the work and
he's getting concerned about the number of times his friend's
brain can handle the procedure.
Jennings is then approached by corporate boss Renthrick (Aaron
Eckhart) who has a major proposal for him. The job will take
three years - far longer than ever before - and will involve
a new kind of mind wipe. In exchange, Jenning's pay will be
a massive $95 million.
It sounds too good to be true but Jennings goes for it. Afterwards,
our guy finds he's been diddled but he can't remember anything
at all about what has gone on.
Suddenly someone is starting to have pot-shots at him and
he finds himself on the run - but he can't remember from whom.
Fortunately he has a package someone sent to him that gives
him clues on how to survive.
Paycheck is a very good sci-fi thriller from a story by Phillip
K. Dick of Blade Runner and Impostor fame. It doesn't have
the same power as those, but is still entertaining.
Affleck is supercool as Jennings and he is helped out by
the beautiful and mysterious Rachel (Uma Thurman). Definitely
worth watching.
