Pluto Nash

The year is 2087 and the Moon is a thriving colony of Earth. Mind you, it is a bit rough and is reminiscent of the early Wild West of America where the law of the gun ruled all.

Pluto Nash (Eddie Murphy) is a wise-cracking nightclub owner who has made his own way in the world and doesn't like being told what to do.

Enter the Mob with some heavy-handed tactics that get our hero's nose right out of joint. So, with his faithful robot bodyguard Bruno (Randy Quaid) and a beautiful waitress (Rosario Dawson), Nash begins to hunt down the hidden mobster who is trying to take over his business.

What follows is a bit of an uneven comedy-adventure that lacks Murphy's usual charismatic performance.

The special effects are damn good, however, and the storyline is not bad - only it seems to have been done at quarter-enthusiasm levels by all concerned.

The transfer is very good and the sound scores highly on the shake-your-system scale.

Pluto Nash is a classic try-before-you-buy title that will appeal to some more than others and so taking it on as a rental first is highly recommended.

Conclusion: 65% Extras: 45%.
