The Recruit

Review by James Anthony

The shady side of life is uncovered in this classic spy thriller about a computer whiz who is recruited by the CIA to become an agent.

James Clayton (Colin Farrell) is eager to serve his country and when approached by spymaster Walter Burke (Al Pacino) he jumps at the chance.

He is taken off to The Farm, the CIA's training base and there he not only learns about the unglamourous life of being a spy, he learns very quickly that little is as it seems and to trust no one. Mind you, he finds that very hard to do with fellow trainee Layla (Bridget Moynihan).

Upon graduation Clayton finds himself called on to hunt down a high-ranking mole and then the heat really gets turned up on him.

The Recruit is an exciting thriller that has plenty of plot twists and red herrings thrown into the mix.

One minute you'll know what is going on and the next you'll be scratching your head thinking "hang on I've lost where this is at."

The lead actors are excellent and will have you guessing right up until the last.

The video transfer is sharp and superbly detailed, although the sound is even better with some of the best 3D channel use I've heard.

Worth watching.

Conclusion: 85% Extras: 70%.
