One by one Toombs' crew discovers Riddick is not only hard
to catch, he is also very dangerous, and when the tables are
turned the bounty hunter willingly (kinda
) tells the
murderer where he should go to find out who is paying to catch
him.
Next stop is the planet Helion Prime where he is surprised
to meet up with the holyman he rescued in the movie Pitch
Black, the Imam (Keith David). Riddick also meets the spirit-like
Aereon (Judi Dench), who wants his help in holding back a
rampaging religion called the Necromongers.
The Necromongers can be compared with the Crusaders of old
as they move from place to place either conquering it in the
name of their god or destroying everyone who gets in the way.
Riddick, as you would expect, couldn't care less what the
Necromongers are up to - that is until they make an unannounced
assault on Helion Prime.
From there it all gets very exciting - and bloody - with
some exciting battle scenes thrown in. The video transfer
is matched by the use of surround sound and is excellent.
There is a lot to The Chronicles of Riddick and I reckon
it works as a sci-fi movie introducing new worlds and cultures
to the screen - a la Star Trek - First Contact.
I like Riddick as a character and the ramping up of the scale
of the movie will make this one flick that serious sci-fi
fans are likely to enjoy. I should point out that arbiter
of good movie taste, Mrs A, didn't enjoy it, although she
did really like the first film, Pitch Black.
If in doubt, rent first.
Conclusion: Movie 85% Extras 50%
