Sound silly? Implausible? Well, not in this film. The
Ring is a genuinely disturbing movie about a journalist
(Watts) who is following up the deaths of some teenagers who
have allegedly watch the tape.
Not a great believer in the supernatural or spooky things,
she breezes into an investigation only to discover that maybe
there is some truth to the legend.
I can't say any more otherwise they'll make me watch the
tape!
Anyway, Watts is terrific as Rachel Keller and it has to
be said she gets herself into things that you wouldn't catch
me touching with a 10-metre pole - even with a bible attached.
She is well supported by Martin Henderson as her ex-hubby,
the incomparable Brian Cox as a man who may be able to unlock
the secrets to the mystery and David Dorfman as her son Aiden.
The photography in The Ring is superb and will have
arts-school students wishing they could open their eyes long
enough to get a few tips.
The video transfer is faultless and the sound has been done
so well that you'll be looking over each shoulder every time
you here something new from each channel.
The Ring is a must-see - but it's probably better
you don't do it alone!
Conclusion: 90% Extras: 60%.
