Joshua (Josh) Mallon V, (Bing Crosby) refuses to become active in the shipping company that his ancestors built up over generations.

He is a continual disappointment to his father Joshua Mallon IV, (Charles Coburn) and fiancée Gloria Wycott (Judith Barrett).

Josh teams up with old buddy Ace Lannigan, (Bob Hope), a girl chasing ne'er do well, and together they escape to Singapore.

There they compete for the affection of Mimi (Dorothy Lamour), an island girl who assists as they try to sell dubious cure-alls like 'Spot-O' and 'Scram-O to gullible natives.

Mayhem erupts as local characters Caesar, (Anthony Quinn) and Achilles, Bombanassa (Jerry Colonna) get involved.

It all gets worse for Josh when his father and fiancée turn up and it looks like Mimi is falling for Ace.

Road To Singapore is the first in a run of hugely successful movies. They all have in common: Crosby, the astute singer, Hope, the wise guy, and Lamour, the siren.

As a team these actors are special; they move from wise cracking adlibs, through tender ballads, song and dance, to slapstick.

Best songs include: Too Romantic, Sweet Potato Piper by Johnny Burke and James V. Monaco. Captain Custard by Johnny Burke and Victor Schertzinger.

Conclusion: Movie 75% Extras - 70%
