It is actually a highly amusing - rather than outrageously
funny - yarn about a nice, lonely, devoted boyfriend Josh
(Breckin Meyer) who is seduced by a gorgeous fellow student
Beth (Amy Smart).
Unfortunately, she videos the episode and the tape is then
accidentally sent off to his long-time girlfriend Tiffany
(Rachel Blanchard) in a Texas University.
Now, while that may seem unlikely, who hasn't at some stage
felt the stomach acid rising when trying to remember if you
sent the right card to the right person and haven't mixed
up the envelopes?
So, with exams looming, Josh gets three mates together and
they go for a rather long drive from New York State all the
way down to Austin in Texas, a gentle road trip of some 3000
kilometres.
As happens in these stories, things do not go according to
plan. In fact, they go so far awry that it looks as if Josh's
package is going to be opened well before he can get hold
of it.
Now those people who love smutty jokes and teen sex journeys
will have a great time - there is plenty of schoolboy stuff
here - and watching the skinny super nerd lose his virginity
to a hugely obese woman is both amusing and grotesque.
The transfer on to DVD is very good with only a few hiccups
to moan about. Nothing major, however.
All up, this may not be what you expect, but Road Trip
is a movie that is well worth buckling up for.
Conclusion: Movie 80%, Extras 50%
