Chuck Reardon (Bing Crosby) and his partner Hubert Frazier (Bob Hope) are entertaining the crowds in a circus sideshow.

Hubert, stage name 'Fearless', is the dope who is talked into Chuck's grandiose stunts.

This time he's the human cannonball and a miscalculation on by his buddy results in the entire circus burning down.

Pursued by the police and their creditors they escape to Africa. There Chuck invests their remaining cash in a phoney diamond mine.

Broke, Hubert gets their money back by selling the useless mine to a pair of villains.

In the black again they run into a couple of con girls, Donna (Dorothy Lamour) and Julia (Una Merkel) who talk them into funding a safari.

The boys think they're searching for a lost parent; but in reality it's another scam. They're plunged into the cannibals' pot; meet snakes, ferocious cats and amorous gorillas. Can they survive and get back to civilisation?

In Road To Zanzibar Bing Crosby and Bob Hope refine their double act into a polished series of jokes, song and dance, and charm.

Everyone else in the cast enhances this entertaining movie.

The songs by Johnny Burke and James Van Heusen support this aim; but it's not their best work.

Conclusion: Movie 70% Extras - 70%
