Quaid begins the tale as a family man who, upon the death
of his wife and son, murders Muslims in a mosque then proceeds
down the path of dehumanisation to the point he does not care
about killing children if they happen to be on the wrong side
of the Bosnian Serb/Croat/Muslim divide.
As cold as he tries to paint himself, the essential goodness
of Quaid's character comes out and he finds himself defending
the Muslim baby of a raped Serbian prisoner against her family
and Croats alike.
Savior is filmed in very picturesque countryside, but it
is a bleak investigation of the horrendous side of people
living and killing in the Balkans.
It is not an enjoyable movie, but it is certainly engaging
and will have you on the edge of your seat for most of its
running time.
