As Phar lap burned himself into the sporting consciousness of Australia, so Seabiscuit did in America.

But while Phar Lap was a monster of a horse - size wise - Seabiscuit was a small mount that was not rated for much other than letting other horses beat it.

Seabiscuit

In Seabiscuit you follow the amazing tale of how the undersized horse with the oversized heart and the people who looked after him and trained him into a champion.

It is a true yarn and all the more remarkable for that.

There is the too tall jockey Red (Tobey Maguire), the millionaire shattered by tragedy (Jeff Bridges) and the cowboy horse whisperer (Chris Cooper).

Seabiscuit is a classy period drama with superb costumes and a real feel of the Great Depression. The scripting is very good, the photography excellent and the staging of the races is superb.

All the actors are first rate with natural performances that have you believing them as the characters.

Seabiscuit is not just a horse racing movie, but one about people triumphing against the odds.

Conclusion: Movie 85% Extras 75%
