Seeing Other People

Review by James Anthony

Here's another little gem of a movie from the folk at Magna Pacific - Seeing Other People, starring Jay Mohr, Julianne Nicholson and Andy Richter.

The basic premise of this very witty and funny movie is a young couple who have been living together for years finally decide to tie the matrimonial knot and all of a sudden one of them begins to get very nervous.

Have I enough partners? Do I know what I am about to do and all those other negative thoughts.

Unusually though, in Seeing Other People, it is the gal, Alice (Julianne Nicholson), who gets cold feet. She suggests to her fiancé Ed (Jay Mohr) that they should really be seeing other people - just to make sure of their love.

Seeing Other People

Sounds silly doesn't it? And that's the reaction of Ed, who doesn't want to get on the singles scene again because he thinks he's with the woman he wants to marry.

Needless to say things do not go to plan and the movie goes through a series of changes of good luck--bad luck incidents as the couple move apart.

Seeing Other People is a terrific movie that is handled well and cleverly by both director and cast.

You find yourself having your favourite characters, and the experiences of the other side - when bad - do bring a "…deserved that" flavour.

Now, in a movie like Seeing Other People you will usually find the guys are the randy ones trying to lay every hardbody around, yet that may not be the case this time around. It has a different view of things and - for once - the blokes tend to come out in a better light than the gals.

Mohr will wins hearts as Ed, while Nicholson shows she's a damn fine actress. Watch out for Andy Richter as Carl, a sad case who almost steals the movie!

Seeing Other People is a film that has a mature look at a subject that so easily could have been another teen-crap yarn and turns it in an hour-and-a-half of acute observations and humour.

Well worth the time.
