 The Shaggy Dog

Review by Clint Morris

Knowing he ain’t half as funny as what eight year olds have been mind tricked into thinking he is, and knowing he’ll be a VP of Disney in a couple of years – if he already isn’t – watching Tim Allen’s film just, well, makes you feel kinda dirty.

The Shaggy Dog

In fact, watching any Allen film feels wrong. I mean, he’s always the same; he never brings much to the table and admit it, all his films are half-cooked redo’s of earlier, better films.

Shaggy Dog is no exception – it’s a contemporary retool of the ol’ Fred MacMurray comedy about a wannabe D.A that inadvertently turns into a sheepdog at the most inopportune of times, that although tolerable and apologetically entertaining in parts, is just another example of just how dark corporates crap.

From wasting good A-listers - my god, what is Robert Downey Jr doing in this!! - because well, Disney have the money to do so, to pushing kids buttons with ‘middle-aged man grows tail’ jokes, it really is quite a sad affair. But again, your little one probably won’t mind…. Nor notice that Allen is actually having forty winks in some of his scenes.
