Our hero Kirk (Jay Baruchel) is a skinny loser who has been moping over
his ex for the last few years - which is kind of embarrassing as she is
still hanging out with his family despite having a new boyfriend. However,
when he meets gorgeous party planner Molly (Alice Eve) during his
airport security job, he is too wrapped up in his problems to even think
about hitting on her.
She leaves her phone behind, he finds
it, she gets him to come to a party to drop it off and before you know
it, they're dating. Mostly because she has just come out of a bad
relationship and is looking for someone safe, but dating
nonetheless. Unfortunately, all
Kirk's family and friends - especially his trash talking best buddy
Stainer (T J Miller) - think they know where this story ends and it
involves a lot more heartbreak for Kirk.
So, with the best possible
intentions, they keep on telling him: She's out of your league. In
case the plot doesn't give it away, this is really funny, with plenty
of hilariously profane and bizarre dialogue (mostly from Stainer). But
it's also pretty much spot-on with the emotional side of things
too. She's Out of My League doesn't
lay it on thick, but you do get two fairly well-rounded and believable
characters falling in love here - and that's a hell of a lot more than you might
have expected from what looks like yet another trash-talking sex
romp. There is a lot of very high-quality trash talk here too. DVD Special Features
There is quite a bit of fun stuff on offer here. There is the usual
fare - Commentary by director Jim Field Smith, Deleted Scenes with
Optional Commentary by director Jim Field Smith and a Blooper Reel -
however, it's the unusual that's the real selling point.
Keep and eye out for "Devon's Dating Show" and "Audiences Across America Get Rated" - it's good fun!
