Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music

For youngsters (read those under 45 years) who may not be aware of Frank Sinatra, there is a series of 10 DVDs that shows you just how talented the Chairman of the Board and king of the Rat Pack was.

And the first disc - a TV special starring the great man - is the perfect introduction.

This DVD reminds you that not only was Sinatra a great singer, he was also a formidable performer and actor. He also had a good sense of humour, as is shown when he lists the songs he rejected - Mona Lisa being the most painful.

It has 17 songs, lots of asides and humour, and a slick feel. Fortunately there's not too much canned laughter wrecking the atmosphere.

The pick of the tracks are I've Got You Under My Skin, The Lady is a Tramp and the peerless Come Fly With Me.

The video transfer is I Love Lucy vintage so you can't expect pristine vision, however, it does look pretty damn good nonetheless. The thing that stunned me about the disc is that the sound - on a mono track - sounds better than it could be expected to!

The series is available on DVD individually, or in two sets of five discs. If you're a Sinatra fan then this series is a must look-at.

Conclusion: Rating: 80%
