Frank Sinatra: A Man and His Music III

Review by James Anthony

Old Blue Eyes gets into his third DVD of the series with his usual charm and two excellent guests, Antonio Carlos Jobim (leader of bosanova style music) and Ella Fitzgerald.

Apart from a nice rendition of Ol' Man River, the highlight for me is the work Sinatra does with Fitzgerald. He has a medley of hugely popular songs with the fantastic singer and their patter, while scripted, has a nice feel to it.

You get a dozen or so duets and Fitzgerald fans will love the three numbers she sings by herself.

Jobim's guitar work is sublime and the bosanova rhythm has you thinking of sultry partners in smoky bars. The Girl from Ipanema is the outstanding song and sounds terrific when Frankie croons it, but sensational when Jobim sings it in Spanish.

The transfer is very good considering it's off 1960s' TV stock but again it is the performances that will have your feet tapping and hands drumming. A very nice production.

Conclusion: Rating: 80%
