Spooks : Series 6

Review by Sean Lynch

No matter how hard society tries to convince us that horror movies are the reason people go on murdering sprees - you need not go further than the hundreds of cop shows airing on our TV screens each night to find why the world is obsessed with the macabre.

Don't blame Freddy Kruger, blame the detectives showing us each and every grisly murder they come across.

Spooks : Series 6

Thankfully, not all cop shows are a complete waste of time - in fact, some just keep getting better and better. And for mine, it has to be British series Spooks.

A BAFTA award-winning series, Spooks follows the work of a group of MI5 intelligence officers at Thames House. In it's sixth season we discover growing mistrust between the British, American and Iranian Governments begin to culminate in a series of high-risk operations at home, pushing the Section to its very limits.

As Iran’s race to become a nuclear power impacts on British and American security, the distinction between friend and foe becomes increasingly blurred. Harry and his team start to question exactly whose agenda they’re working to and who they can trust - both on and off the Grid.

This series takes a slight departure from the usual Spooks episodic formula, heading into more of a Lost-esque serial realm - and the show is much better for it. The tension created by the ongoing saga is TV at it's best and making this one of the most under-rated cop shows on TV.

DVD EXTRAS with Sean Lynch

Who would have guessed there would be so much Extras material for the sixth season of a British TV show? Honestly?

Included here and some top notch Special Features which are sure to please any die hard Spooks aficionado. There is a bit of forgettable fluff thrown on there (most notably the behind the scenes documentary), but the Interviews with the cast and the Miranda Raison Video Diary is well worth investing some time into.

One of the few shows of it's kind that can be viewed without having to watch from Series 1, making this quite an exciting DVD prospect for any crime show buff.

Conclusion: Movie 75% Extras: 70%
