Inexplicably, the president's speech is tampered with and
so the chief's job goes to Gregorio's rival Donnegan Giggles
(Mike Judge) and his children - Gary and Gerti Giggles (Matthew
O'Leary, Emily Osment), take out the prestigious honour.
Worse follows when a mysterious group raids a presidential
meeting and steals the Transmooker device, which can destroy
the Earth with its power.
All the blame falls upon Juni and it is up to him, together
with his sister, to hunt down the perpetrators and save the
planet.
All that needs to be said about Spy Kids 2 is that
it is a sensational adventure for children of all ages.
There are special effects and gadgets galore, terrific action
scenes where kids get to beat up and outwit adults, and a
massive amount of humour and fun.
Both Vega and Sabara are fantastic in their lead roles and
have the nouse to carry off roles that require a great deal
of understanding about special effects.
What can you say about Banderas, other than he is excellent
and does not mind taking the mickey out of himself.
Throw in Ricardo Montalban and Holland Taylor as know-it-all
in-laws, Steve Buscemi as the mad professor and you have a
cast that is perfect.
Adults will absolutely relish the opening performance of
Bill Paxton as a terror-ride park owner - this guy is seriously
funny when he wants to be.
Rodriguez is clearly a Ray Harryhausen fan as anyone who
has seen Jason and the Argonauts will appreciate his
homage to the master pre-digital animator.
Spy Kids 2 can be heartily recommended for anyone
with youngsters and it is the perfect movie for adults to
sit down and enjoy with them. The littlies will love the whole
thing, while adults can just be gobsmacked at the visuals.
Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
