Starship Troopers

Earth is under attack! From the insect-infected planet of Klendathu, giant creatures are throwing massive meteors towards Earth.

Buenos Aires has been destroyed by the giant rocks and now it's time for some payback.

Join up with the space marines and let's go kick some bug ass!

The hard part is that the bugs are waiting and the beasties are straight out of your worst nightmare. They are a nasty mixture of Alien and spider with a huge genetic dose of scorpion thrown in.

Their shells are like armour and if they are not spearing you with their legs then they are ripping you in half.

Starship Troopers has to be one of the goriest movies made in a long time, we kid you not. Arms, legs and heads go flying, blood gushes, brains get sucked out and alien goo gets sprayed everywhere.

It is also one of the best movies to hit big screen/video/DVD over the past decade.

Director Paul Verhoeven has created a simply stunning '50s-style adventure that perfectly blends action, satire and brilliant graphics in an over-the-top treat for anyone with half a brain.

Gorgeous actors, witty scripting and unbelievably good special effects ensured Starship Troopers would become a cult classic.

The cast work their material well and you do strike up a relationship with them, even some of the annoying ones. But it's the scenes where hosts of bugs swarm in for an attack that really capture your attention.

Picture this, tens of thousands of two to three-metre-high killing machines scuttling towards you. It's like watching a cosmic version of Zulu while on some mind-bending susbstance.

Starship Troopers is a must-have and if you only have room for two or three DVDs on your rack, this has to be one of them.

Conclusion: Movie: 90% DVD Extras: 50%
