Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation is about a small
patrol of Federation soldiers who are cut off and miss being
picked up by a transport ship.
They manage to fight their way out and into a deserted strongpoint.
Well, it's almost empty as they discover an imprisoned Colonel
Dax (Richard Burgi) who is a big-time hero facing court martial
for killing his former commander.
The newcomers are a bit 'sus about Dax but put aside any
worries about him when the base is attacked by hordes of the
nasty bugs.
They know they will be overrun and it seems the tarnished
hero may be the only one capable of saving them.
But, and it is a big but, the bugs have a new weapon and
this could very well mean the end of the patrol and even humankind.
Now the plot is not original, but it is done very well and
while you'll recognise several big-time movies "borrowings"
it sort of adds to the fun.
The special effects are astounding for such an inexpensive
film. I have to say I was fearing there would be only one
or two of the bad beasties and that they would look like very
thin chaps with bug suits on but this isn't the case.
Starship Troopers 2 is definitely worth viewing and if you
are a fan of the original then you'll probably be happy to
have this in your collection.
