What Stingers did is it roughed up the genre, and put a new edgy spin on it. Whilst shows like Blue Heelers and Homicide
were – for the best part – squeaky clean boys-in-blue
weekly mystery series’, this one reinvented the wheel by mixing
it up a little. Basically, there was nothing
‘squeaky-clean’ about it at all. Everyone in it had their
problems, everyone had a skeleton or two in their closet, and mysteries
weren’t always resolved within a 42-minute time frame. In some
respects, it felt realer, because of the ‘slightly stuffed
up’ world it depicted.
Granted, the first series isn’t the best.
It’s OK, but it wasn’t exactly a show you’d
religiously dedicate yourself to week after week. The characters [back
then] weren’t that interesting, and neither were the storylines.
But later, about midway through the second season, they really hit
their stride – characters became fleshier, episodes became more
exciting, and audiences warmly accepted the ‘at home’
storylines of the leads.
Peter Phelps - playing the ringleader of a deep
undercover unit of the Australian police - remained with the show until
its final season, which is good, because he was definitely the best
thing in it.
EXTRAS
None on offer it seems! Perhaps they are keeping them all for Series 2?
Conclusion:
Movie 65% Extras: N/A
