S.W.A.T

There was a bit of pre-viewing hope for the movie version of S.W.A.T, the old 1970s TV show, and for people wanting action it's pretty good.

But considering the high-profile cast and the money put into the action extravaganza, it could have been so much better.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

S.W.A.T (Special Weapons and Tactics) is an exciting look inside an elite police group that is called in when things go crazy and things hit the fan.

It centres on Jim Street (Colin Farrell) who has been demoted from the squad because his former partner went way off beam while saving hostages in a bank hold-up.

Street is miffed but wants to work his way back to operations, although it seems there is little chance of that because the powers that be are slow to forgive.

But the opportunity does arise when a new elite-within-the-elite is formed and it just so happens that Street's dedication and determination is recognised by the group's boss Lt Hondo Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson).

As luck would have it they get the chance to prove themselves almost immediately when a terrorist Alex Mortel (Olivier Martinez) is captured and offers more than $100million to anyone who can free him.

Needless to say Harrelson's team is the unfortunate one chosen to escort Mortel and keep him from being snatched by an almost inexhaustable number of criminals groups wanting the money.

As said S.W.A.T is full-on in the action department, but the script is pretty shakey at times. The characters are what you would expect - nasty chief, hard-but-lovable group leader, silent and mean young dude, fiesty female, smarmy rich crook - and the word cliche could get mentioned quite often.

Still, it's the firepower you'll be looking forwards to, although I must say I preferred Bad Boys II.

The video transfer is excellent and the sound absolutely sensational!

Conclusion: Movie 75% Extras 60%
