Well, that's what the mysterious ex-CIA operative Gabriel
Shear (John Travolta) has in mind and he doesn't really care
who gets hurt in his bid to grab it.
Unfortunately for convicted computer hacker and marriage
failure - Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) - he's the guy picked
to complete the mission for Shear.
What follows is an exciting, entertaining movie filled with
twists and turns and a giant-sized dollop of action.
The opening scenes will have you gobsmacked and you'll never
want to go into a bank again. (If you ever wanted to queue
for five hours at a time again, that is).
Travolta is terrific as the complete-your-mission-at-all-costs
Shear, while joint top-billed Jackman carries off his central
role with charisma and style. His American accent is faultless.
The pair really work well together and while Jackman is the
put-upon good guy, it is almost impossible not to like Travolta.
Halle Berry does well as Ginger, and certainly looks fine,
and her character is ambigious and very much helps in the
twisting and turning plotline.
While Swordfish is not going to get into the Top 10 movies
of all time listings, it is a damn good adventure and will
keep you interested all the way through.
The video transfer is gobsmacking and the sound really makes
your sound system sweat!
As an aside, I really want to get work as a hacker - if Jobson's
initial cracking test is a standard option. Mind you, under
that sort of pressure - I don't think I'd be able to log-on,
let along manage anything else!
Conclusion: Movie 85%, Extras 75%
