Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

The Terminators are back for round 3 of the Man vs Machine title fight so hang on to your battle helmets because this is one wild ride.

If you thought Terminators I and 2 were action-filled, then they have nothing on the latest - Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

The chaos created in the world as Terminatrix TX (Kristanna Loken) does her utmost to kill John Connor (Nick Stahl) and Kate Brewster (Clare Danes).

The evil mean machine is the latest greatest bad dudette to walk the planet and has a skinful of super weapons that make survival look pretty remote for the on-the-run duo.

Mind you, up pops our Arnie to help out and he not only throws in with a huge physical protective presence, but also liberal (can we say that about a Republican governor of California?) amounts of humour.

It's fair to say the laughs level is higher than the first two movies in the series, and so is the action. The scenes where a giant crane wipes out entire blocks has to be seen to be believed.

But, it is also fair to say that the added action and humour still can't Terminator 3 past the quality-line of its predecessors. It just lacks an inspirational touch.

The cast is excellent - particularly Stahl as John Connor - and Loken has enough beauty to make you think she can't be all bad - until your head is ripped off an flung several hundred metres away! Arnie seems to be having fun and there are lots of nice little references to his previous adventures.

Terminator 3 has a stunning video transfer that has no faults whatsoever. Perfect colours and contrast, razor-sharp imagery and not an artefact in sight. The DTS sound is first-rate and the DD 5.1 has one ear listening to the words while the other is catching the explosions.

While Terminator 3 doesn't have the same spark as the classics I and 2, it is still a hugely enjoyable yarn and continues the must-follow saga of John Connor and his fight to save humankind.

Conclusion: 85% Extras: 85%.
