The Dream with Roy and H.G

Review by Clint Morris

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you can’t deny John Doyle and Greg Pickhaver (a.k.a Roy and H.G) have done “bloody well” at what they set out to achieve.

In a nutshell, the subterfuge seemed to be: fool the populace into thinking you’re a couple of true-blue sports/current affairs journalists, give credible but indomitable interviews (asking the kind of question no sane journo would) and turn what could’ve been a five minute meekly amusing spot on Aunty into a nationwide phenomenon.

The Dream with Roy and H.G

“The Dream”, televised on Channel 7, is one of their most recent success stories. Aired at night, after the daily events of the 2000 Olympics, it was a late-night filler that pitted Roy and H.G against the eventful sports Olympiad.

They took the piss out of near each and every sport (without being condescending), interviewed the entrants, and took a look at some of the sporting highlights of the day. Funny stuff indeed – and a novel idea to boot.

Fancy watching 7 hours of it? Because that’s what you get with the newly released DVD. Seven hours of the popular show. Coming up to Christmas, this one’s sure to be popular with Dad.

DVD Extras

In addition, there’s a slew – actually, slew’s an understatement, try truckload – of interviews tagged on as supplementary materials. Unfortunately, they’re the only extras – but there’s quite a few more interviews tacked on, so no need to whine.

Conclusion: Movie 75% Extras 60%
