Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Thomas the Tank Engine's first foray into the world of the big screen was not a major success, but it had a charm that little ones could get into.

It also got a bit into the mystical as the Island of Sodor becomes an alternate world to ours, which is known in the movie as Shining Time.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle

The link between the two has been the Magic Railroad but that is now under threat from the bullying Diesel 10 and his partners in crime Splatter and Dodge.

The usual protectors of the Magic Railroad are Mr Conductor (Alec Baldwin) and his cousin but they are both losing their sparkle and the magic dust that allows them to hop between the two worlds.

Fortunately, a young girl called Lily (Mara Wilson) goes to visit her grumpy Grandad (Peter Fonda) and strikes up a strong friendship with Thomas and the gang.

Together they take on the nasty smelly diseasals and do their best to save magic in the world.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad can be a bit naff at times - with Alec Baldwin not quite sure whether to ham it up all the time or not - but overall is solid. Personally, the best part is watching the nasty diesels in action.

The video transfer is very good and the sound is fine.

Good for kids, but adults may want to watch with magazine in hand.

Conclusion: Movie 70% Extras 20%
