Tomcats

Tomcats is definitely a movie of two halves. The first wee-while is ordinary stuff, but then all of a sudden it clicks into gear and the second part has some pants-wetting moments.

It is the yarn of a group of well-off studs who compete to see which of them will be the last man left unmarried. The winner not only gets to leave his clothes everywhere and eat takeaways while playing computer games - he also pockets the prize pool of $500,000.

One by one they fall by the altar until only Michael (Jerry O'Connell) and Kyle (Jake Busey) are in contention.

Kyle is a sleazy superstud who has never liked, let alone loved, a woman in his life. All, that is, except a bridesmaid he jilted in the middle of the desert. He accidentally let's slip his thoughts for the poor girl during a golf game with … you guessed it … Michael, who begins tracking down his rival's weak spot (a gorgeous and surprisingly very good Shannon Elizabeth).

Michael, a smooth-talking chap, is in desperate need of the dosh because while transfixed by the sexy charms of a high-roller groupie he finds himself up to his nostrils in debt to a casino. In order to save his ability to walk, he has to find $50,000 in a month.

This sets in motion a series of misadventures that will either have you crying for mercy or averting your eyes. Particularly the testicle-in-the-hospital-cafeteria scene, the librarian and her gran, and the sperm bank. Look, it's very much bloke stuff with lots of exposed flesh, coarse humour and shocking attitudes.

Tomcats is perfect for a boys' night piece of entertainment, but I doubt many women will enjoy it to any great extent. The video transfer is spot on and is matched by a very clear audio track.

Conclusion: Movie 75%, Extras 50%
