Right from the kick off the movie is filled with action and
laughs, usually courtesy of Tom Arnold, who is a revelation
as an actor in True Lies.
While the serious plot involves terrorists attacking America
with nuclear bombs the sub-plot - that of hiding his profession
from his wife - gives the movie a fantastic fun aspect.
The most hilarious sub-sub-plot is where the slimy Simon,
a used-car salesman, tries to crack on to Mrs Tasker. Played
by a usually macho and serious Bill Paxton, Simon goes to
water (literally) when caught out by Harry. You will almost
wet yourselves at his character.
Tia Carerre is gorgeously over-the-top as a money-hungry
art expert and Art Malik lends the perfect blend of psycho
terrorist and loony madman to his role as the chief bad guy.
The transfer is exemplary and the technos who did it clearly
took a bit of time over the process as they have done extremely
well to produce an almost perfect transfer in a high-action
movie.
Running with a 5.1 audio track, True Lies is easy
to listen to and, despite the eye-grabbing scenes going on
in front of you, it is never difficult to pick up what the
characters are saying.
True Lies is a beauty and is a definite for any home
library. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
Conclusion: Movie 90%, Extras 35%
