For those who have had the series on video, the move to DVD
could be an investment - the five-part series, each volume
a double disc that retails for $59.95 - but a very worthwhile
thing to do.
No longer will you need to fast forward through miles of
tape to find the spot you are interested in - the DVD format
allowing much easier navigation and playability. In fact,
The World at War has its own easy-to-navigate system
that gives you a pretty good idea where the episode you are
watching fits in with the others.
The quality of the images is very good, with a terrific transfer
on to disc definitely improving upon what you would normally
see on the box. Of course, with a documentary series that
focuses on a war fought between 1939 and 1945 the live war
footage is not what it once was.
If military history is your interest, then this is a series
to check out. For educational institutions it is a must.
