It focuses on two best mates Julio (Diego Luna) and Tenoch
(Gael García Bernal) who get on together like brothers, despite
the facts their families comes from differing ends of the
social ladder.
Their girlfriends have just headed off to Italy for the summer
holidays and the boys are at a loss as to what to do.
They plan a trip away to a beach and hope they can meet lots
of interesting girls, smoke lots of drugs and get laid as
much as possible.
On the way they meet Luisa (Maribel Verdu) who is married
to Tenoch's obnoxious cousin and is obviously unhappy with
her marriage.
They suggest she join them on the trip and despite an initial
rejection she takes them up on the offer.
What follows is a funny, clever, raunchy and interesting
tale as the older lady teaches the lads something about life.
Without being brilliant or perfect, Y Tu Mama Tambien is
still a wonderful look at the teenage coming of age.
The video transfer is excellent, with terrific depth of colour
and charpness, although the sound is up and down. It is particularly
noticeable when the narration is about to cut in and the sound
seems to drop out for a second.
