Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg - aka: Micheal Cera #2) is a big wuss (thankfully, in a world full of zombies, fear can keep you alive) while Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) is an AK-Gun-totin',
zombie slaying mofo whose single aim in his potentially short life is to get the last
Twinkie (cake with cream inside) on earth.
Of course, they aren't the only ones left in the world... there are still a few hot babes floating around.
They soon join forces with Wichita (Emma Stone - who has stepped up the hottness factor considerably since Superbad)
and Little Rock (Little Miss Sunshine's Abigail Breslin), who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie
mayhem.
Now the foursome have to determine which is worse : relying on each
other or succumbing to the zombies.
Zombieland
is a lot of fun... an insane amount of fun actually. Is it the funniest
movie ever? No. Is it the coolest movie ever? No.
Is it 100% enjoyable
- hell yeah!
There isn't a flat spot in sight, the laughs come
thick and fast, the cast have some great chemistry with each other, the
visual style is fresh and fun and -
most importantly - the Zombie kills are frequent, violent and inventive.
What kicks Zombieland
up from "Yeah, that was pretty good" to "A Mother F**king Cult
Classic!" can be attributed to one of the coolest, most unexpected
celebrity cameos a film has ever seen.
It has been reported that
originally the late Patrick Swayze was meant to take on the role (but pulled out
when he became sick) and that Dan Akroyd, Joe Pesci, Vanne Damme were all approached and declined.
The celebrity who did agree,
did so the day before filming.
I don't wish to ruin the surprise
- so I won't say who the celebrity in question is, and I suggest you
don't try to investigate who it is either - because the reveal may very
well make your year.
Great fun, the ultimate Friday night on the couch DVD! DVD Special Features
There are very few movies that are a must-have on
DVD, but this comes close. There is just a butt-load of extras packed
onto here - all of which are pretty damn good. Check out this for size:
"Shootin
Zombies with Ruben Fleischer" is excellent, in which Director Ruben
Fleischer talks about creating the slow motion, zombie-attacking main
title sequence by using the Phantom Camera, a special camera that
shoots 1000 frames per second. He also shares never-before-seen footage
of other zombie attacks.
There is also a stock standard "Behind
the Scenes with the Cast and Crew of Zombieland", plus some fairly good
pieces of Additional behind-the-scenes footage and interviews which
cannot be found on the typical release.
Go out and get it!
Conclusion:
Movie 80% Extras: 80%
