Oh the hypocrisy!
Don't
you just love human nature - or, to be more precise, the predictability
of corporate greed and lack of humanity.
The best example of callousness going around at the moment
- apart from the Australian immigration bastards who whisked
away the caught Woomera escapee boys so their Dad couldn't
see them - has to be the big chiefs of New York and the bun
fight on at the moment to redevelop the area around where
the World Trade Centre used to be.
Now, it's not even a year since the tragic event and while
US politicians, including my mate George Dubya Bush, are wringing
their hands and demanding revenge - it seems that the thousands
of people who died (and their families) mean much less now
than they did back then.
Plans to redevelop the site are copping a lot of flak from
the public because the New York and New Jersey Port Authority,
which owns the land, is wanting to include one million square
metres of offices and 55,742 square metres of shops in any
project.
In fact, a memorial to those who died doesn't seem to take
up a lot of space in the minds of officials. That is, of course,
until they want to start limiting people's freedoms, or bombing
the crap out of other nations, then it's hands over the hearts
and "Remember September 11."
A father of a fireman who was killed trying to rescue people
during the tragedy summed it up best after a huge public meeting
to try to persuade officials to show a bit of decency.
Lee Ielpi said: "It was important to see that question
mark raised over the sincerity of the officials who came here."
Let's face it, it doesn't really matter what country you
live in around the world, big business and politicians are
all the same. You don't matter one iota - until they want
your money or your vote!
