God bless our nurses
Now
having a very deep disdain for the opinions of many in our
community, it was a shot in the arm to see the results of
an honesty and ethics poll collected recently.
For in a society where a TV or sports star is worshipped
as being the ideal Australian, the poll has shown that maybe
there's a glimmer of hope for us yet.
For in the survey, nurses rated as being the most honest
and ethical people in Australia. That doesn't include their
being dedicated, selfless, professional and completely underpaid.
Ninety per cent of us said nurses were the bee's knees and
the top spot was won by them for the eighth year in a row.
Keeping in mind nurses were only included in the survey in
1994 - that's not a bad effort.
Other honest types in our society are chemists, doctors,
teachers and dentists.
The news was not so good for sales people, however, who again
have polled badly in the honesty and ethical stakes. Can't
see why, all they want to do is take our money.
Last year's last-on-the-list car salesman have retained their
bottom-feeding position and are enmeshed with other horrid
types such as real estate agents, politicians and business
executives as thepeople you don't want to associate with.
Now one thing did surprise me and that is that TV reporters,
and boy do I use that description loosely, outpolled newspaper
journalists in the honesty stakes. Must have been their pretty
faux-tanned faces and bouffant hair - and that's just the
chaps in the expensive suits!
Still, I've known some pretty scummy newspaper reporters
- ones that make used-car salesmen look like saints. But that's
for another time.
Gotta go, I've just seen Dolores sneak into the viagra cupboard
- poor old Bert's in for it tonight. Better get the video!
