Unbelievable

How about this for an interesting little court case.

Now it just so happens that a Perth chap got so pissed off with the massive amount of spam he was copping from some inconsiderate swine that he decided to do something about it.

He tracked down and published the offending company's name on the Net in a bid to end the electronic assault he faced everytime he looked at his email.

This up-yours move is an excellent way to begin to pay those spamming bastards back for the appalling and ever-growing lists of crap that hits Internet users.

For example how about these just from the past few days.

  • Never pay for movies again! Burn your favorite movies on CD!
  • Clearance Prices From Bluecom Danmark A/S
  • YOU'RE BEING WATCHED!!!
  • Searching for used formwork
  • Free Internet Ready Phones
  • Get Good Price on Moulds
  • Don't miss out on the .US domain rush
  • Credit Unions host DNA LifePrint endorsed by
  • One BUCK for One month Porn forever (ooops, how did that get there?)

Now while I applaud and defend the guy's fight against spammers he has found himself in hot water.

It seems an anti-spamming mob used SPEWS (Spam Prevention Early Warning System) to pick up on the email company's IP address and blocked it from being able to send its garbage over the Net.

Now the bitter-and-twisted company is suing the spam victim (yes, once again the law is an ass) for loss of earnings of $1000 a day. The poor dears!

Now, without pre-judging this whole matter, it would seem to me to be pretty ridiculous if a person cannot defend themselves against a company cheerfully invading the privacy of his house or computer.

I mean if a burglar attempts to break in and steal from us are we not able to defend ourselves? And when you think about it, this spamming company doesn't give a rat's arse about stealing time from this bloke by forcing him to wade through their electronic vomit of email.

It is about time that we Internet users begin to flex our collective muscles and fight back against the tsunami of spam. If you are sick to death of electronic junk mail - then get stuck into anyone who perpetrates this extreme and costly annoyance.

And if I were this spam victim I'd be dropping a return lawsuit upon the plaintiffs claiming mental abuse, invasion of privacy and any other damn thing I could think of.

Now the Government is looking at the issue of spamming and doesn't paint it with a nice rosy glow.

It says: "The Government acknowledges that spam is an increasing problem among internet, now accounting for approximately 20% of all emails received. These unsolicited messages have many economic costs for users and result in increased download times and internet access costs."

The sooner spamming is made illegal the better.
