One finger up for Swiss Reinsurance

As a nation, Switzerland is known for great skiing, making clocks and banking. Okay, it also has a reputation for cheese with holes in it, however, it's banking that wins the fame race.

Therefore, considering the numbers of bankers in the place, you'd sort of expect them to be able to count - and pretty damn well too! (Although there are times when I look at my bank account and think that someone's taking a little bit extra out each week in the hope I won't notice.)

Anyway, counting is extremely important to Switzerland and so it gobsmacked me when I found out that a giant insurance company, Swiss Reinsurance, can't count to two.

That's right, two. Hold up one finger to normal people and they'd count one, hold two up and the answer would be two.

However, Swiss Reinsurance can't quite seem to grasp the matter. It is saying that the detruction of the World Trade Centre was ONE incident and so it will only pay out ONE policy worth a gentle $7billion.

The people wanting to get money out of their insurers, reckon that because TWO planes hit TWO buildings it should be TWO incidents and Swiss Reinsurance should fork out $7billion on each claim.

Now it's hard to argue with that and most people wouldn't, however, Swiss Reinsurance is battling it out in the courts trying to overturn the laws of Maths that have been established for one heck of a long time. Certainly more than TWO centuries!

With insurance premiums skyrocketing around the world there is ONE thing that should be remembered by the formerly exceedingly profitable business of taking people's money and then praying nothing would happen to their houses, contents or lives.

If you take the premium, you should pay the dosh. Don't go sneaking about in the fine print trying to worm out of your obligations!

Now if anyone from Swiss Reinsurance would like to get in touch with me, I've got a few boxes of Nazi gold I'd like to .....
