This means Waugh .
Over the break I did more than my fair share of listening
to the Ashes cricket Test series on the ABC, and what was
even more infuriating than some of the umpiring was the fact
that people are white-anting our beloved captain Steve Waugh.
Now, this guy is the best captain who has ever led this country.
His success ratio of 33 wins in 45 Tests absolutely destroys
his closest rivals who are way back on the victory-o-meter.
Okay, his form with the bat hasn't been up to his usual Mt
Everest-high standards, but what about the first innings in
Sydney?
He shone far above his younger colleagues and when you throw
in his hard attitude towards the game and his brilliant captaincy
he is irreplaceable.
But some want to.
Why? What benefit is it to throw him out?
No doubt there will be embarrassed mumblings when the hard
word is put upon selectors to give us one good reason for
Steve Waugh to go.
Maybe we'll get a - "it's time for new blood" sort
of response.
Well, to borrow an English phrase - Bollocks!
No-one in that team could lead a side the way SW does. And
none has the grit to hold out a bowling attack when the chips
are down the way he can.
Change for change's sake is idiocy and the selectors should
keep their traps shut and pick the best man for the job.
Show me a better captain and I'll eat my own undies. On second
thoughts, maybe not.
