Austin Powers in Goldmember: Interview

Review by Clint Morris

Interview with Mindy Sterling
Actor in Austin Powers trilogy.

Is Austin Powers in Goldmember the final bout for the illustrious daddy of dabness? Maybe - but actress Mindy Sterling says playing villanous, Frau Farbissina, the mother of Scott Evil, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her career.

Dr. Evil's henchwoman: Frau Farbissina

"This time we've got something bigger, better, very faithful to the previous films and a wonderful film."

Sterling agrees that the film is a blast. "There are many, many surprises. We visit the 70's. We see a younger version of Evil and Austin and how they came to be and Frau gets a bit more stylish and sexy," Sterling laughs, adding that her co-star Mike Myers is a real pro.

"Mike is amazing and always trying to make you laugh. He is a very generous performer and gives you the freedom to try different things.

"Most of all he is fun to play with in the scene. You go along with him and he goes along with you."

She adds, "They (the Austin Powers films) tickle the funny bone. It's silly, juvenile sometimes, humor. It's comedy at his broadest and Mike is able to tap into all of our comedy senses."

Sterling admits there's little similarity to herself and on-screen persona. "Maybe just the loud mouth," says Sterling.

"I love doing Frau. When I get on the set with Mike and everyone else, it comes naturally. She's a wonderfully strange character."

Sterling is as equally as busy as her famous co-stars, having just completed a role in a new TV Series. "I did a couple of independent movies last year... Don't know what's going on with them. I just did a guest star on a new TV series called She Spies for NBC," said Sterling.

"I love doing movies and TV. Movies are slower and you can do more takes and try different things and you are not on a time frame. Sitcoms have the 'live audience' and 'instant laughter' and works like a play. But you have to come in on time... There is no room to add."

And is Austin Powers in Goldmember... the last? "I hope not. I don't want the fun to stop. Plus, they always say this is the final and then in a couple of years... they are back... I'm sure the audience won't give up!!"

Austin Powers in Goldmember commences in Australian cinemas in September.
