Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Review by By Clint Morris
No
Beer. No Women. No Paycheque
I'd never want to be an
8 year old again. Except for when it comes to reviewing movies
aimed at such a target market, Jimmy Neutron being
the perfect example.
Whilst I lapped up every palatable moment of Shrek,
Toy Story, A Bug's Life, even Monsters.Inc,
the universal appeal that those films had is despondently
absent with this latest release from the Nickelodeon Studios,
hence the 'I'm befuddled' board strapped around my waist.
Obviously the people that green lit such an infinitesimal
movie were sadly lacking in the intelligence that its major
character is not.
But as much as this 26-year old found it a bit of an errand
to sit through, I'm betting every pre-teen is going to be
imploring mummy and daddy take them back to it multiple times.
Jimmy Neutron is your typical boy genius, ridiculed by most
of his fellow school friends but a dab hand at creating a
one-of-its-kind space rocket.
As you'd have it, Aliens decide to kidnap the parents in
town, and it's up to Neutron - with his continuous supply
of out of this world gadgets and gizmos - to save them all.
If it's animation excellence you salivate for
Jimmy
Neutron is the wrong movie. After such breakthroughs in
technology of late, especially with the magnificent CGI look
of films like Shrek, it's disappointing to see a film
so lacking in definition and tenor. In some ways, the animation
of Neutron looks like an unseen rough cut of the South
Park pilot - but perhaps ankle biters won't notice.
Your son, daughter, niece or nephew will beg you to take
them to this. And they'll probably enjoy it so much they'll
be giggling and jumping in their seats. It's for that reason,
I suggest you get the usher to keep an eye on them, while
you sneak out and go catch De Niro in the cinema next door.
