Movie Buzz : Wicked - The Movie

My sister is absolutley obsessed with the musical Wicked. In fact, there might be something seriously wrong with her and her addiction to the merry old land of Oz.

If she were a man, she'd be camper than Andy Dick on a tricycle.

So when news started circling that there was the possibility of a movie version of Wicked in the works... she just about had a melt down (or started "Melting... Meeeeeeelting").

Our pals over at Moviehole caught up with Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth who suggested that "Yes, I do think it [Wicked : The Movie] will be made".

She went onto say "I think - you know, there is some sort of thing going on right now where everyone's hearing that there is going to be a movie... There will be a movie".

But don't get to excited just yet. Chenoweth believes she "Could be wrong" and that "It will be years before we see it as a movie, because... Universal will really want to make sure that they suck it dry".

She added "If you look at movies like Chicago and Phantom of the Opera those were twenty, twenty-five years after the fact".

"And I could see, definitely, me playing Madame Morrible at that point. But I hope they really do it soon, so that I'm young enough to play Glinda".

Word on the street is that Marc Platt and David Stone will produce the screen adaptation for Universal, with Winnie Holzman penning the script.
