Monster Mash
It's one of the most talked about movie trailers since the invention of
movie trailers! The secretive new JJ Abrams monster movie (which is yet
untitled, but known amongst the industry as "Cloverfeild") screened in
the US before Transformers
- and only showed the release date at the end of it.
Very little is known about the flick (which is set to be a mix of Independence Day
and The Blair Witch
Project) other than it's set to be "the first real
American Monster movie".
For those who have yet to catch the trailer....enjoy:
Abrams has been a busy boy, with him also working hard on the new Star Trek prequel.
Casting news is currently revolving around Oscar Winning actor Russel
Crowe who is apparently top of the wish list to play the villain in the
new Star Trek
movie, says IGN Movies. Now that doesn’t mean Crowe’s playing the part,
it just means J.J Abrams would love it if he did (and, I’m guessing,
love it if he’d take a pay cut to boot!).
The Star Trek
films have always been able to coax great actors into playing villains
– Christopher Lloyd, F.Murray Abraham, Christopher Plummer, Malcolm
McDowell, Alice Krige etc – but if Crowe signs on, he’d have to be the
biggest. Considering Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks to play a small
role in the film too, Abrams is all about filling the screen with
famous folk (since it looks like he’s casting relative unknowns in the
main parts – Kirk, Spock and so on – that’s a smart move; Crowe and
Cruise would be able to pull the non-Trekkies in).
It’s not the first time that the powers-that-be on a Star Trek film have
tried to reel in a big fish : Jude Law was wanted for the rogue of the
rogue in the ill-fated Star
Trek : Nemesis (2002), Oscar Winner Tom Hanks (!) was
asked to play the role of Zephram Cochrane in Star Trek : First Contact
(1996); and much earlier, Eddie Murphy was supposed to co-star
in Star Trek IV
: The Voyage Home (1986) in which he’d have played “a
professor concerned with UFO's who spots the de-cloaking Klingon ship
at the Super Bowl. Apparently, all others are convinced the ship is a
half-time special effect while Murphy believes it is real”.
It’s not known whether Russell Crowe is a fan of Star Trek – but it
would definitely help Paramount’s cause if he is.
The Superhero Who Shagged Me
Once she wraps the demanding frightfest The Eye, Jessica Alba
will give her lungs a rest courtesy of the new Mike Myers
comedy Love Guru.
The foxy Fantastic Four
star will play love interest to the Austin Powers stars
new character – a maharishi by the name of Pitka.
Pitka is an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as
a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and
fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality, specializing in
settling intimacy issues between couples.
His unorthodox methods are put to the test when he must settle a rift
between star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco from The 40-Year-Old Virgin)
and his estranged wife. After the split, Roanoke's wife starts dating
the star member of a rival team, sending her husband into a major
professional skid -- to the horror of the team's owner, Jane Bullard
(Alba), and Coach Cherkov (Verne ‘Mini-Me’ Troyer).
Marco Schnabel, who worked on Austin Powers in Goldmember,
will direct from a screenplay written by Myers and Graham Gordy.
Your Preyers Have Been Answered
Want to see the lady from Rogue
Traders in a naked lesbian shower scene? Chances are,
you'll still get to see the proposed naughty bits that were mentioned
not long back were likely to wind up as a deleted scene on the eventual
DVD release.
Super.
Anyhow, word comes from NatalieBassingthwaighte.com that "while Prey is still very
early in post production, the overly-hyped lesbian shower scene is very
likely to remain in the film, despite fears of the scene being cut."
The scenes supposedly involves Bassingthwaighte taking a shower while
another young lady watches.......
Trailer Trash
There are some super cool - and some super
dodgy flicks headed for our cinema. So we thought to give you a little
taste of them both.
First up is the fantastically funny Eagle Vs Shark from
the minds behind Flight
of the Conchords. Much like Napoleon Dynamite
or The Royal Tenumbaums,
this one goes for understated laughs as opposed to License To Wed over
the top gags. It's currently doing the film fests, so be sure to check
it out.
We also have a look at the Lindsay Lohan stinker I Know Who Killed Me
which recently tanked bigtime in the US.
