Out Cold
Review by By Clint Morris
Directing
brothers Brendan and Emmett Malloy would like you to believe
Out Cold is American Pie at a ski resort. The common
eye won't be fooled though, it knows witty comedy, and this
isn't it.
For Out Cold is merely a botchy screwball comedy,
that if any, is hoping to resuscitate the career of fallen
80's icon, Lee Majors. Buckley's chance...
Mount Bull and its resort is up for sale, and the kids that
work and live there aren't too pleased. Seems filthy-rich
new owner, John Majors (Lee Majors) is going to have his share
of enemies.
Ageing teen heart-throb, Jason London (whose biggest claim
to fame is legendary Dazed and Confused) is Rick, the
smartest of the snowboarding resort employees.
While his dimish friends Luke (Zach Galifianakis), Anthony
(Flex Alexander) and Pig Pen (Derek Hamilton) are out getting
their manhood stuck in the spa hose or ogling off Major's
Swedish stepdaughter Inga (that's two strikes), he's mourning
over a past lover, who - wouldn't you know - re-enters his
life when he discovers she's actually his new boss's daughter.
Threatened with the prospect of seeing their beloved mountain
turned into a playground for yuppies, the team of misfits
band together to dream up the ultimate of snowboarding fiascos
that will make any potential shareholder think twice about
investing in Major's new project.
As thin as the mountain air, the plot of Out Cold
hasn't been done for a while - whenever the last 80's T 'n'
A ski movie was - and I'm surprised the genre resurfaced.
While it may have some great looking ski stunts on display,
the movie is so tragically lame and cardboard creased, it'll
only make you yearn even more for the next Warren Miller ski
flick.
And, as for Lee Majors -- you need to fire that umpteenth
agent of yours.
