Yep, Captain Jack's back - but is it for the final time? The third installment in the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy hasn't even hit the cinemas and already there is talks of expanding it to a fourth, fifth, even sixth film. Where will it end? At World's End?

Pirates 3 picks up where the record breaking 2006 smash hit (Dead Man's Chest) left off. With heroes Will Turner (Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) allied with Captain Barbossa (Australia's own Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones' locker.

With the terrifying Ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman, and it's commander Davy Jones under the control of the East India Trading Company, there is havoc on the Seven Seas.

Navigating through treachery, betrayal and wild waters, the heroic trio must forge their way to exotic Singapore and confront the cunning Pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Now headed beyond the very ends of the earth, each must ultimately choose a side in a final titanic battle - as not only their lives and fortunes, but the entire future of the freedom loving Pirate way hangs in the balance.

Ok, first things first. This is going to be huge. I'm not talking simply about the hype, I'm not talking about the amount of dollar bills that will be pouring into Disney's, Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski's pockets - I'm talking about the sheer scale of this cinematic experience. Judging by the trailer - this is the sort of film that can only be done justice by seeing it on an enormous cinema screen and sound system. Forget your burnt copy from Thailand, don't do this epic the injustice of watching it on a computer screen.

Without doubt, the Pirates trilogy will go down in history with the likes of the numerous other "Filmed-Back-to -Back" anthologies of the past (most notably Back To The Future and Lord of the Rings), but strike me down if on pure popcorn entertainment factor if this isn't the most enjoyable trilogy ever made. Which is pretty impressive when you think about the fact the both Pirates 2 & 3 began filming before a script had even been written.

But what can we expect? The big news is that Keith Richards will finally make his screen appearance as Sparrow's father (a role which has been touted for almost four years now) - which was given away during filming in 2005-2006 after Richards fell trying to get a coconut out of a tree.

The trailer, which has been closely guarded (perhaps due to the fact the film still hasn't been fully completed), depicts some of the most impressive sea battle/action scenes that have ever been put on the big screen (keep an eye out for the all-in Pirate whirlpool battle). Let's face it, how can you go wrong - it's like a school reunion of characters from the Pirates universe, with the added bonus of the Singapore Pirates and the uber cool Chow Yun-Fat.

In terms of box office, it's difficult to predict. There is no doubt that this will pull in a few punters (heck, the second installment barely had an ending and it did sublime business). In 2003 the Disney Ride-Turned-Blockbuster got off to a slow start with Curse of the Black Pearl pulling in just under $50 million on opening week (not bad, but relatively average for a Big Budget affair - to put it in perspective - both Dare Devil and Ghost Rider did similar first week business), however it went onto gross over $300 million in the US. The 2006 sequel, Dead Man's Chest, opened to almost $135 million and went onto make a staggering $423 million in the US alone (almost double that of the highly hyped Superman Returns - which had it had half as much fun and action as Chest, would have a hell of a lot better). And that's not taking into account DVD and Merchandise sales. Yep, old uncle Walt is bathing in a pool of cash in his cryogenically frozen grave.

People will know what to expect when they walk into the cinemas come May 24 - but get ready - because when it comes to Pirate battles, expect the unexpected! Savvy...?
