Imagine, if you will, a world were human and vampire have warred
since the dawn of time – only thing is, these aren't your usual
vampires, because they would have won easy.
These are more big
dumb monsters that live in giant hives rather than the sneaky human
vampires, and while humans had technology and sunlight the vampires had
strength and speed - until the Priests came along.
Super-ninja
Matrix-style fighting men and women, they defeated the vampires and
ushered in a new age of everyone either living in a big Blade Runner
city or out in the wild west style desert that lay outside the city
walls.
And with all that set-up out of the way (some of which is animated and looks pretty cool), the story proper can begin.
Don't
get your hopes up though, as the story is a pretty straightforward:
after the death of his brother and sister-in-law in what the religious
authorities deny is a vampire attack, a former Priest (Paul Bettany)
breaks Church law and rides off on his souped up motorbike to
investigate.
Teaming up with the local sheriff (Cam Gigandet)
and later on, with another former Priest (Maggie Q), they soon uncover
a vast vampire conspiracy that will destroy the city unless they can…
stop a train?
While none of the pieces of this puzzle are
remotely original – you’ve seen everything here before and done better
besides – Priest keeps the run time short and the knock-offs coming
fast so, if nothing else, things never get dull.
Which isn't something you can say about a lot of mid-level action films these days. 3 out
