Saw V

Not even the surprise twists are surprising in the Saw franchise these days, and this instalment features pretty much the exact same plot of the last few movies.
Essentially,
while a bunch of chumps with a mysterious connection wander through a
house full of death traps being dispatched in various gory ways, on the
outside a cop rushes around trying to figure out what the hell is going
on... just in time to do pretty much nothing that is actually
useful.
To be fair, the twist with the death trap in
this one is slightly smarter than you might expect (even as the entire
reason for the death traps is slightly lamer).
Plus the
makers at least know enough to make sure that the film's opening death
trap is as nasty and unwatchable as they can make it - so the rest of
the film is as uncomfortable to watch as possible...
Until you realise that they put all the really nasty stuff up the front, that is.
But
otherwise, label this one "more of the same", and unless you really
need to see more people sliced in half, slashed to bits, cutting open
their own throats and so on you can give Saw 5 a miss.
Also... what the hell is up with that terrible wig worn by Dexter's Julie Benz? Just woeful!
